Mariton: A Short Nap

January 2, 2018

by Tim Burris, Preserve Manager

Animals sleep differently than humans. Our pets have the luxury of a safe haven which affords them deep sleeps.  Cats and dogs are predators which give them additional reassurance when they settle in.  Prey species that sleep in the open are a little different and need to stay alert.  One of the game cameras captured this phenomenon.  Pay attention to the eyes.  If you follow the time stamps in the following set of photos, you’ll see that this buck was settling in for a nap, but caught himself.  This reminds me of some of my class lectures, especially a statistics class back in college right after lunch.

Going…

Going…

Gone.

Who me? I’m not sleepy.
