Mariton: Rain Surplus Cut In Half

October 1, 2019

by Tim Burris, Preserve Manager

At the end of August, Mariton still had a surplus of about 9 inches of precipitation. At the end of September, that surplus had been cut to 4.58 inches.  September was really dry, and I only recorded 0.84 inches for the entire month.  (The average is 5.53 inches.)  This is the driest September that I have recorded in 25 years.

In July, Mariton had average rainfall with 5.77 inches, and in August we had 4.56 inches, which is also close to average. For the quarter (July – September) we received 11.17 inches compared to the average for that period of 15.97.  It is amazing the affect one month can have on the year’s precipitation.
