Mariton: 2017 Second Quarter Precipitation

July 5, 2017

by Tim Burris, Preserve Manager

April was about an inch below average for precipitation.  Remember how dry it was when you wanted to work in your garden?  May was about a half inch above average.  There were 18 days with measureable rain in May.  June ended up about half an inch below average.  The second quarter ended1.44 inches below average for rain.

Fortunately, March was wet and gave us a little cushion at the end of the last quarter.  At the end of June, we had received 24.34 inches of precipitation for the year; the average is 24.47 inches.  So, we are right on average, at least at Mariton.  Looking at the data, July can be all over the board, ranging from 0.40″ to 12.27″.  While many people will be on vacation during the next few months, we still need about an inch of rain a week to stay on average.  Hopefully, it falls during the night for vacationers.
