Mariton: 2017 Precipitation Total

January 4, 2018

by Tim Burris, Preserve Manager.

As we conclude the 2017 calendar year it is time to look back on Mariton’s precipitation records. 2017 ended up as a dry year.  We received 45.0 inches of precipitation, and the yearly average is 51.86.  March and October were the only months with above average precipitation. The rest of the year was very close, or below average, based on 21 years of records at Mariton.  This is the third year in a row with below average precipitation.  2016 was nearly 11 inches below average, but none of these years reached the low of 1997, when we only received 40.39 inches of precipitation.  From 1997 – 2002, every year was below 50 inches of precipitation, so in the grand scheme, this isn’t an unheard of trend.
