Crow’s Nest: Volunteers rock Creek Trail!

October 11, 2019

By Daniel Barringer, Preserve Manager.

Volunteers from GSK spent a morning volunteering at Crow’s Nest yesterday: they spread two tons of gravel on the surface of the Creek Trail, vastly improving the experience for visitors hiking there.

Two tons doesn’t look like much, but it does weigh a lot. The challenge with this project, and the reason we use volunteers to do it (besides enjoying working with volunteers), is that the gravel has to be spread by hand over a vast distance—more than 500 yards—in a thin veneer over the tread way to give it traction. That’s a lot of walking back and forth with buckets and wheelbarrows of gravel.

Thank you to the GSK volunteers for rocking it!
