Crow’s Nest: Owl Encounter event

September 26, 2022

By Daniel Barringer, Preserve Manager.

In a little less than a month we will be holding an Owl Encounter event with rehabilitated live animals brought to us by Dawn White of Indian Run Environmental Education Center.

We’re hearing Great Horned Owls and Screech Owls regularly at night these days, and occasionally Barred Owls like the one above that neighbor and Force of Nature Volunteer Christina Queen photographed where her backyard meets the preserve. It’s substantially less common for us to see any of these, though on certain nights we see the silhouette of a Great Horned Owl perched on the peak of our barn.

The Owl Encounter will be held on Friday, October 21, from 7:30 – 9 pm at the Crow’s Nest Preserve visitor center barn. The program is suitable for kids 6 and up and the fee is $5/adults, $3/kids. Please register online here.

This program is made possible by The Cassandra O. and Dennis B. Lacey Performance Series.
