Schuylkill Highlands Challenge

September 25, 2018

By Daniel Barringer, Preserve Manager.

We’re excited to be one of the locations to visit for the Schuylkill Highlands OUTHERE Challenge! Pick up a lanyard with question packet at French Creek State Park Visitor Center, Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site Visitor Center, Warwick County Park Visitor Center, or either location of Coventry Ice Cream Parlor.

When kids (age 3 – 18) fill in the card by answering eight questions at five locations (French Creek, Hopewell, Warwick, as well as Welkinweir and Crow’s Nest Preserve), they will be able to redeem the card for a free ice cream at either location of Coventry Ice Cream Parlor and enter into one of three drawings (November 2018, 2019, or 2020, depending on when the card is completed).

Here’s a pro tip for your visit to Crow’s Nest. Due to the excessive rains the Creek Trail is a muddy mess—not ideal for a trail, but that’s what land beside a stream should naturally be allowed to do, that is, flood. So wear waterproof boots. That’s the only way you’ll make it far enough along the Creek Trail to read the interpretive sign that has your answer on it!

Sooner or later it will stop raining and this challenge looks like a lot of fun. Our household will be doing it!
