Salamander Walk

On Saturday Owen and I attended a salamander walk at Green Valleys Association’s Welkinweir, led by Natural Lands’ own Patrick Gardner. (Natural Lands holds a conservation easement on the Welkinweir property, and both organizations are partners in the Hopewell Big Woods.) It’s only recently that I realized that Patrick has this expertise on salamander biology and found out Saturday how good he is at finding them!

Here he is showing (and sharing) a Northern two-lined salamander (Eurycea bislineata) he found along a tributary to the ponds at Welkinweir.
