Mariton: Wet and Warm

August 17, 2018

by Tim Burris, Preserve Manager

Since mid-July we have received over 10 inches of rain at Mariton. That is a lot of rain.  With the recent hot spells it feels downright tropical.  Several species of fungi love this weather and have sent up their fruiting bodies (mushrooms).  Here a couple examples of boletes that I saw on a recent walk.  I don’t eat wild mushrooms, even the ones I know are edible.  Please remember the adage:  “take only pictures…”  and leave the mushrooms for other people’s cameras.
