Mariton: Second Quarter Precipitation

July 9, 2021

by Tim Burris, Preserve Manager.

Precipitation was below average at Mariton during the second quarter of this year.  April was dry and I only recorded 1.90 inches of rain for the month, compared to 4.00”  which is average.

May was dry until Memorial Day weekend.  If you had outdoor plans you probably remember that over the weekend we received more than 2 ½ inches of rain.  So, May ended up with 4.68 inches of rain, compared to the average of 4.69”

I received rain regularly during June from showers and thunderstorms, but it only added up to 3.61 inches.  The average is 4.90” of rain for June.

Mariton is 3.40 inches below the average for the second quarter of the year.  However, we are only two inches below average for the first six months of the year.  Again, that snow in February was really important in filling the “rain bucket” and more importantly the ground water reservoirs.
