Mariton: Rainfall Update

July 1, 2013

by Tim Burris, Preserve Manager

June was unbelievably wet.  I recorded 11.27 inches for the month.  That is over 6 inches above my average (17 years of data).  In 2006, we had a similarly wet June and received 10.93 inches of rain during June.  Everyone living near the Delaware River remembers June 2006.  That was the third time in less than two years that the River exceeded 35 feet and caused major damage.

Eleven inches of rain is a lot of rain for one month.  We have received 27.43 inches of rain at year’s mid-point.  That is about 3 inches above average for this period.  Knowing that the faucet could be turned off for months, I hate to wish for some dry time, but we could use a break at Mariton.
