Mariton: More Vine Cutting
by Tim Burris, Preserve Manager
Mariton had another super group of volunteers this week cutting vines. We have been making great progress in a section of forest that was flattened during Hurricane Sandy in 2012. Two weeks ago the volunteers worked through an almost impenetrable section of regrowth forest. Because today was a warm and sunny, I decided to work along the Squeeze Trail. This area that has less briars, so people shed layers as the morning heated up.
At the end of the morning we walked back to the Nature Center and people kept jumping off the trail to cut something we had missed. I had to remind people not to worry about the vines we had missed, but think about all the trees they had saved. We saved literally hundreds of trees and shrubs this morning in just a few hours. Thank you Bob, Art, Gary, Mike, Kieu, Cheyene, and Cindy (and Steardship Assistant Barrett Donna)! The forest thanks you too.
