Mariton: Color Retrospective

November 1, 2018

by Tim Burris, Preserve Manager.  Photos by Carole Mebus.

Last week I showed two photos that Carole had taken of the same Red Maple (Acer rubrum).  Carole took another photo of the tree this week on the Nature Walk.  I thought I would show all three together.

Right now the fall colors at Mariton are mostly yellow.  The hickories, and sweet birches are brilliant yellow.  The Tuliptrees are just starting to change, but are more green than yellow.  The Spicebush is similar to the Tuliptrees.  The Dogwoods are a warm burgundy.  The Red Maple above is definitely scarlet, but there are several in the woods that are just starting to turn.  On Tuesday’s Walk, we spent a lot of time oohing and aahing at different trees along the trails.  I think this weekend will be a good time to get out, but there is more color to come.
