Local events: on the water, bicycle and foot

May 7, 2013

There are lots of outdoor events coming up no matter how you travel:

Registration is filling up for many of the days of the Schuylkill River Sojourn in early June. This paddle from headwaters to Philadelphia is a popular event that allows you to experience our region in a completely different way.

French & Pickering Creeks Conservation Trust will be holding its annual Iron Tour on June 9. Courses range from 11 to 100 miles and travel through the landscapes the event raises funds and awareness to protect.

It’s not too soon to think about registering for this September event: The Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture will be holding its annual Bike Fresh, Bike Local event in Chester County on September 22. Bike rides range from 10 to 75 miles and the event is a fundraiser for PASA.

And on June 1 come on over to Crow’s Nest Preserve for our annual contra dance in the barn with the Birdsboro/Elverson Dance. Normally they meet at the Birdsboro Community Center but in June each year they enjoy foot stomping in our old barn. The fee is $9, discounts for students and seniors. The band will be Rumpus and the caller Donna Hunt. Wear comfortable, soft-soled shoes. Instruction begins at 7:00 pm; the dance starts at 7:30. We won’t be having a potluck dinner ahead of time this year but feel free to bring a picnic dinner to enjoy in the barnyard.
