Crow’s Nest: Turning the corner on the season

Sure, we’ve still had snow flurries in what should be mid-spring the last two days. But each season has its unique tasks and we are well into spring by that measure. I finished the winter monitoring of conservation easements (a favorite view from one pictured above).

Now I am getting started on managing garlic mustard (Alliaria petiolata), an invasive plant that we try to manage in selected parts of the preserve. And at the same time we are well into the tree, shrub, and perennial planting season (happy Arbor Day and Earth Day!). Below is some nursery stock waiting to be planted. This cool, wet weather is ideal for planting; there will be plenty of warm weather to follow.
