Tents dotted the field behind the barn at Crow’s Nest this week as we hosted the group Schuylkill Acts & Impacts, a partnership of the Schuylkill Headwaters Association and the Farimount Waterworks. High school students enrolled in the week-long expedition along the Schuylkill River stopped at Crow’s Nest for two nights to visit local environmental organizations.

We started with a campfire discussion about careers in conservation—and the varied path by which many of us ended up here. We also discussed a bit about the work Natural Lands does, including our stewardship of Crow’s Nest Preserve. The next day we hiked some of the preserve—dodging a rainstorm—and went into more detail about land stewardship.

The next morning we bid the students goodbye as they traveled downstream to Valley Forge National Historic Park on their way to Philadelphia.
