Crow’s Nest: Glorious Summer!
By Daniel Barringer, Preserve Manager.
I love this time of year. Yes, we’ve had some hot days, and the work load can be relentless in summer. But I love that it is light when I get up in the morning, that I don’t have to add many layers of clothing, and the windows are open and I can hear birds singing. Oh, and the flowers and butterflies are also wonderful.
We added a hammock swing under this huge red maple (above) at the old farmstead on Harmonyville Road. No matter how hot it is outside, it is comfortable under this tree. Lately Owen and I have been lying in the hammock reading books.
Here are a couple of other recent scenes from the preserve: a hayfield ready to cut and the meadow above the Chief’s Grove.
