Crow’s Nest: Cleanup at the Visitor Center
By Daniel Barringer, Preserve Manager.
This week volunteers performed the annual cleanup of the perennial gardens at our visitor center barn: cutting them back but also bundling the cut stems into sheafs that were distributed in the woods nearby to protect insects that make their homes in the stems of wildflowers.
The group also sowed wildflower seed in a section of meadow nearby, added topsoil to improve the grade along the path to the barnyard, and removed invasive multiflora rose on an island in French Creek behind the barn. We’re pleased that many hands made short work of a substantial annual project.
