Mariton: Warbler Invasion

May 10, 2013

by Tim Burris, Preserve Manager

I walked out the door this morning to the song of a Chestnut-sided Warbler right in the yard.  The trees tops were full of activity.  I went back and grabbed binoculars and quickly identified half a dozen warblers, plus a Blue-headed Vireo.

The warbler migration is finally heating up at Mariton.  If possible, you should take advantage of the increased activity over the next few days.  Remember, this only lasts for a short time.  Then many of these speceies will be headed even farther north to their breeding grounds.

Mariton’s Migratory Bird Census is scheduled for Saturday morning.  Hopefully the weather holds for us.
