Mariton: August Precipitation
by Tim Burris, Preserve Manager
August was wetter than July, but not much. I recorded 3.51 inches of rain during the month. While this is below the average (4.67”), my spreadsheet shows several years when August received about 3 ½ inches. Remember a year ago? August 2011 netted 15.45 inches of rain (thanks in part to Irene). Contrast that with 2010, when we only received 1.42”.
I was thinking about this the other day. If we get about an inch of precipitation a week, we end the year near average. In the winter that would mean 10” of snow a week (for three months?). Fortunately, our climate patterns are not that regulated.
