March events at Crow’s Nest Preserve

March 14, 2012

The remainder of March is going to be very busy here at the preserve. This Saturday Natural Lands Trust’s Force of Nature volunteers will be undergoing training here on identification and management of invasive plants. The following Saturday we will be holding our annual summer camp reunion, a chance for last year’s summer campers to get together and enjoy the preserve with their families: there will be a campfire, hikes, videos from last summer, and games (pre-registration required). And the Saturday after that the Chester County Trail Club will be holding a ten-mile loop hike that starts here and ranges through parts of French Creek State Park.

We will also be hosting an event of the Delaware Valley Orienteering Association on Sunday, March 25 from 10 am – 1 pm. Orienteering is using a map and compass to find specific objects. There will be several courses laid out from beginners to expert. We’re very excited about a new orienteering map that DVOA has prepared for Crow’s Nest Preserve and adjoining lands, adding to the extremely detailed maps of French Creek State Park already available. If you have ever been interested in seeing what orienteering is all about this is a good time to find out.
