Each autumn, raptors and songbirds flock across our forests and fields, following age-old instincts to fly south for the winter. Natural Lands’ diverse habitats sustain a variety of avian species.

Bring your binoculars and join Natural Lands staffer Debbie Beer for a guided bird walk.  We’ll look for migratory and resident birds, including woodpeckers, jays, and other woodland species.

When

October 25, 2023
9:00am - 12:00pm

In 2017, Natural Lands protected a 1,505-acre mosaic of forest and farmland known as Bryn Coed—which means “wooded hill” in Welsh. In doing so, we saved one of the largest remaining unprotected swaths of land in the greater Philadelphia region from becoming a housing development.

The preserve includes a Pennsylvania Champion white oak, the headwaters of the Pickering Creek, and several Bald Eagle nesting spots. Miles of hiking trails meander past 19th century stone farmhouses, historical ruins, and other remnants of the land’s agricultural past.

Please note: a portion of the trails traverse private property. Please respect the owners’ privacy and stay on the trails.

Before you go:

  • Birders of all experience levels are welcome.
  • We’ll walk one to two miles at a leisurely pace.
  • Trails may be rocky in places.
  • Bring binoculars and bird identification guides.
  • Please leave your four-legged friends at home.

Help us all stay safe:

  • If you are sick or feeling unwell, please stay home.
  • Masking is optional. Participants may choose to mask at any time.

Natural Lands is able to host more than 100 events a year thanks to the financial support of our members. If you aren’t yet part of our community of members, join us!
