Crow’s Nest: Soft day in the woods

April 15, 2011

With the rain this week the wildflowers were temporarily muted. But the rain made for a beautiful, soft day in the woods anyway. I didn’t carry my camera because of the damp, but I took some pictures with my phone.

Above are the falls of Mine Run, a remote part of the preserve accessible mainly from the Horse-Shoe Trail.

When the rain lifted I saw marsh marigold shining in the swamp.

This weekend would be great for wildflowers if we get a break in the weather. After the rain I saw blooming Dutchman’s breeches (Dicentra cucullaria), lots of spring beauties (Claytonia virginica), rue anemone (Thalictrum thalictroides) and trout-lily (Erithronium americanum).
