Powered By Nature

It’s always better to have class outside. That’s why we’ve launched Powered by Nature, a twist on STEM education that emphasizes exploration in nature, authentic scientific investigation, and character development.

This unique program will help students understand that the choices they make have the power to transform the planet, their community, and themselves.

Launched in the fall of 2016, Powered by Nature will serve all fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students in the Pottstown School District. And it all happens outside!

The three year curriculum – offered in partnership with NorthBay, an outdoor education center based in Maryland – includes multiple outdoor experiences each year, including exploration of local school yards, visits to nearby streams and parks, and trips to Natural Lands nature preserves.

And it culminates in sixth grade with a one-week stay at NorthBay’s extraordinary nature center on the Chesapeake Bay.

Powered by Nature is a partnership of Natural Lands, NorthBay, and the Pottstown School District.

Major funding is provided by PECO and the Exelon Foundation. Additional support comes from J.P. Mascaro and Sons and the Dolfinger McMahon Foundation.
