contribute directly from your IRA
Your Individual Retirement Account (IRA) provides one of your best assets for charitable giving—and a meaningful opportunity for conservation impact.

If you are 70 ½ or older, you can make a direct transfer of up to $108,000 (in 2025) from your IRA to a qualified charity like Natural Lands. Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs) can satisfy all or part of your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) and are excluded from taxable income—an even better outcome than a charitable deduction. (Note that 401(k)s and other employer plans do not qualify.)
The Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) must be a direct transfer from your IRA account to Natural Lands and timing is important since the QCD—normally distributed as a check—needs to clear your account before calendar year-end. When you are ready, contact your IRA custodian and follow their procedures to request a QCD. Ask them to direct your contribution along with your name and address to:
Natural Lands Trust, Inc. (DBA Natural Lands)

Yes! Most custodians mail checks directly to us. Please instruct them to include your name and address with their cover communication so we can attribute the generosity to you. We also have donors who prefer to have their custodian mail the check to them so they can forward it to us. That’s fine too. Just stay mindful of the need to have us deposit the check no later than December 31.
We would love to know that your gift is on the way. Having your name and address, the intended gift amount, and the name of your IRA custodian helps us ensure attribution accuracy.
Absolutely. Your IRA custodian will only report RMD information. You should use our acknowledgement of the QCD gift—which will include very specific language the IRS requires—as your tax record.
