Winterberry (Male)

Ilex verticillata ‘Jim Dandy’

Winterberries are beloved landscape plants for their profusion of red berries that can persist well into winter. But like all hollies, winterberries are dioecious so female plants need male plants for pollination to produce those gorgeous berries. ‘Jim Dandy’ to the rescue! This dwarf male cultivar provides a long pollination window for other winterberries, and in the meantime, it can tolerate those wet clay soils in the toughest parts of your garden and attracts bees with its flowers.

Conditions: Full sun to partial shade, average to wet soil
Size: 4′ – 8′ tall
Zone: 3 – 9
Wildlife Value: Flowers attract small bees and flies
