Ozark Witchhazel
Hamamelis ‘Amethyst’
Are you looking for a plant to quell your winter blues? This Ozark Witchhazel will bring the pizzazz to your garden in the depths of winter just when you need it! Around mid-February each year when the rest of the garden is grey and brown, ‘Amethyst’ bursts with delicate purple-lavender flowers whose fragrance is reminiscent, some say, of vanilla. Hamamelis x ‘Amethyst’ is a selection introduced by Brotzman Nursery and named by Don Shadow.
Conditions: Full sun to partial shade; average soil
Size: 8′ – 10′ tall
Zone: 5 – 8
Wildlife Value: Seeds and flowers are a food source for birds; potential to be an important early season source of pollen; although little research has been done about the specific pollinators for this plant, we have seen various flies visiting the flowers on warm late winter days
