Crossvine

Bignonia capreolata

There are few more romantic or whimsical additions to the garden than flowering vines and crossvine is one of the most spectacular choices out there. Bright orange-red flowers bloom prolifically in the spring, attracting hummingbirds from near and far to its brilliant display. The narrow leaves emerge bright green and darken to a deep, glossy green in the summer. In the right spot, this vine is reliably evergreen, with leaves that turn a deep maroon and add color to the winter garden. With its unique climbing habit, you don’t even need to train it – just plant it along a fence or other structure and watch it thrive!

Conditions: Full sun to part shade; medium soil
Size: 35′ – 50′ tall

Wildlife Value: Flowers attract hummingbirds
