Black Cohosh
Actaea racemosa
Black cohosh is a great shade perennial prized for its candle-like spires of white flowers. Its deeply cut foliage and mounding form make it almost resemble a shrub until its striking, tall flowers emerge in summer! A great plant for making a vertical design statement and one of few summer-blooming shade perennials. A great pollinator plant, it is also the larval host for the beautiful Appalachian Azure butterfly.
