Alfonso Castro

Stewardship Assistant

Fons grew up in a rural town in Costa Rica. “I remember going to a nearby river and spending hours there with my friends.” His time outdoors as a child helped shape his interest in the natural world, which he’s translated into a career.

Fons’ work history prior to Natural Lands includes a stint as manager of a carbon sequestration project in Costa Rica, an endangered species field technician, a natural areas assistant at Morris Arboretum, and wildlife garden restoration assistant with New Jersey Audubon Society.

Fons earned a degree in English Education from La Universidad Latina in Costa Rica, a BA in Environmental Studies from Richard Stockton University, and a Masters of Environmental Studies from the University of Pennsylvania.
