Conservation Tax Incentive Advances
Recently, the US House Ways and Means Committee passed a bill that would make permanent a federal tax incentive that’s been instrumental in preserving thousands of acres of farmland and open space in our region.
The incentive makes it easier for landowners – especially those of modest means – to donate conservation easements. Unfortunately, it expired at the end of 2013. This bill would reinstate the incentive and ensure that it remains in place for years to come.
Our thanks to Congressman Jim Gerlach – a longtime friend to conservation – for being an unwavering champion of the incentive from the beginning. His leadership has been essential.
Next stop… the full House.
