ambassadors
Stoneleigh Ambassadors participate in a training program to learn about the rich history of the garden, our approach to ecological horticulture, guest relations best practices, and much more.
Upon graduation, Ambassadors volunteer to welcome guests to the garden and support special events. They commit to serving at least two, four-hour shifts each month at Stoneleigh. Shifts are available April through November, Tuesday through Sunday, 9:30 AM – 5:30 PM.

Stoneleigh Ambassador training runs annually from mid-February through mid-March. We hold five training sessions on Wednesday mornings held in-person at Stoneleigh: a natural garden. Volunteers must complete a minimum number of sessions to graduate from the program.
Participants must be 18 or older.
Participation in the Stoneleigh Ambassador program requires volunteers to have access to reliable transportation, be able to lift and carry 20 pounds, to walk and stand on uneven terrain, and to pass a background check successfully.
We are committed to diversity and inclusion in all our work, and we strongly encourage BIPOC candidates and LGBTQIA+ candidates to apply.
Participants will be asked to complete background checks, including: PA Criminal Records Check, PA Child Abuse History Certification, and FBI Fingerprint Based Criminal History, if required. Natural Lands will facilitate these background checks during training.
The program fee (including new membership) is $200, payable to Natural Lands by the first day of training. For current Natural Lands members, the program fee is $150. A limited number of scholarships are available.
what are others saying?
“I love being an Ambassador at Stoneleigh. I enjoy the friendships I have formed with other volunteers, and I love meeting visitors and telling them about the history and gardens of Stoneleigh.” ~ Marlene Campbell
“It is exciting to train and work alongside the Stoneleigh staff. We have learned so much about the history and gardens from them. What’s more, we get to observe the changes in the trees and other garden plants throughout the growing season. It’s such a pleasure to volunteer in such a beautiful setting!” ~ Ralph and Lin Hall
