Position Summary

The Senior Systems Administrator is a hands-on leader providing overall guidance, planning, budgeting, implementation, security and support of all technology solutions in pursuit of Natural Lands mission. This position serves as the network and systems administrator for a combination of on premise and cloud-hosted solutions.

Natural Lands utilizes a Microsoft environment including Windows Server, Hyper-V, Exchange, SQL Server, IIS, and Office365. Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics/Great Plains is a plus. Additionally, the Senior Systems Administrator supports endpoints for 87 employees at multiple locations, as well as wired, wireless, and remote-access networks with Internet connectivity.

Essential Responsibilities

Microsoft Windows Server (Utilizing Microsoft Hyper-V)

  • Managing Active Directory, Office 365 and Exchange online
  • Microsoft SQL Server maintenance and performance monitoring
  • Administer IIS Web Services
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics/Great Plains a plus

Maintain File Structure and Manage Network Resources

  • File back-up and restore functions
  • Oversee network security – Administer antivirus and malware protection
  • Maintain remote user server access
  • Maintain wireless connections and network cabling

Internet connectivity

  • Maintain network firewall and VPN services
  • Maintain Xfinity and Verizon FIOS routers

End User Support

  • Responsible for the maintenance of all desktop computers, laptops, and peripherals
  • Manage end user relationship to assist with enhancing user productivity and resolving software and hardware issues
  • Provide support to remote users of network services
  • Printer setup and troubleshooting
  • Research and recommend training opportunities to enhance end user productivity
  • Administration and management of audio/visual equipment
  • Customer service and relationship driven

Assist in long-term IT planning and implementation

  • Assist in identifying potential short and long term improvements to organizations IT structure and assume responsibility for implementing new technologies
  • Create and administer disaster recovery plan that keep the company functional in the event of a crisis

Policy Development, Process Documentation and Recordkeeping

  • Develop and implement IT policies and best practice guides for the organization
  • Maintain hardware and software inventories
  • Administration and management of software licensing


  • Degree in technology or relevant work experience
  • 3+ years of work experience in IT management
  • Strong customer orientation with excellent communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage time effectively

Physical Requirements/ Working Conditions

This position requires the employee to have the mobility to make computer connections, install new computer hardware, and remove old hardware. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. The position requires occasional hours on weekends or outside of regular business hours for certain projects. The position occasionally requires that the Senior Systems Administrator drive to other corporate locations to install or repair computer equipment on the preserve locations.
