White Oak Society and Allston Jenkins Legacy Society Member Field Trip – SOLD OUT

Gwynedd Preserve | Tue, October 17, 2017, 10:00am - 12:30pm

Event is SOLD OUT. Check out our other events to plan your next adventure outside!

Explore amber-hued meadows of Natural Lands’ Gwynedd Preserve and learn from Preserve Manager Tom Kershner about experimental pollinator habitat, wetland conversions, and reforestation. Gwynedd Preserve serves as an excellent model for natural land restoration and our experience here guides much of our work at other Natural Lands preserves.

After more than a century in agriculture, Gwynedd’s fields are being carefully restored to a more natural landscape. Natural Lands has planted thousands of trees, cultivated acres of native grasslands, and mobilized scores of volunteers to reshape this oasis of green into a haven for wildlife and people alike.

Event is free and exclusively for Natural Lands’ White Oak Society and Allston Jenkins Legacy Society members. For more information about the societies, contact Suzanne Barton at sbarton@natlands.org or 610.353.5587 x313.

Gwynedd Preserve is an oasis of nature nestled among the highly developed suburbs of Blue Bell and North Wales. After more than a century in agriculture, the preserve’s fields are being carefully restored. A walk along the trails reveals a re-emerging ecosystem of native plants including warm-season grasses and wildflowers.

The meadow and forest habitats here are particularly important because they are connected to other preserved lands in the Wissahickon Creek watershed. The entire 26-mile length of the riparian corridor of the Wissahickon Creek greenway is protected by private landowners and conservation organizations, as well as township and state entities.

What to wear:
  • We suggest that you bring a hat and sunscreen as we will be walking through open meadows.

Please leave your four-legged friends at home.

  • The terrain is flat and on mowed trails.
  • We suggest you check for ticks after the walk.
  • Light refreshments provided.
