White Oak Society and Allston Jenkins Legacy Society Member Field Trip
Stoneleigh: A Natural Garden | Wed, October 24, 2018, 10:00am - 12:30pm
Join us for a behind-the-scenes peek at the transformation of Stoneleigh from private estate to 42-acre public garden rich with native plants, towering trees, historical architecture, and community connections.
The event will include walking on flat, paved paths for about 1½ hours, stopping frequently to discuss garden highlights. We’ll tour inside the former Haas family home, and enjoy light refreshments.
For nearly 80 years, Stoneleigh was the home of the Haas family, which donated the property to Natural Lands in 2016 so that it would remain preserved forever.
The property includes stately trees, winding pathways, and lush gardens that were designed by a number of notable landscape architects over the past century—including the Olmsted Brothers, sons of the famed Frederick Law Olmsted.
- Meet at the Welcome Kiosk.
- The walk is over flat, paved paths.
- We encourage you to bring a hat and binoculars.
- Camaraderie and refreshments to follow.
- Sorry, dogs are not permitted at Stoneleigh.
