“Ruby’s Birds”: Kids Read and Explore – Cancelled
Gwynedd Preserve |
April 17, 2021 10:00 am - 11:00 pm
Event has been cancelled. Please join us for another fun outdoors adventure.
Kids, bring your favorite adults and discover the wonderful world of birds! Nature never closes and birds abound at our preserves. Meet Ruby, a plucky young girl who uncovers the wild side of her city neighborhood with the help of a grown-up friend. We’ll explore birds through storytime and light hiking to learn more about our tweeting friends.
Natural Lands is pleased to partner with Longwood Gardens’ eighth annual Community Read initiative, a program designed to encourage reading for pleasure. This year feature book is Ruby’s Birds by Mya Thompson, where a little girl discovers her spark—birds— in her own neighborhood. They enliven her world and excite her about nature.
The health and safety of staff and families is our highest priority during this event. Please review “before you go” details. Masks and social distancing are practiced.
Capacity is limited for this small-group event, and pre-registration is required. If you need to cancel, please let us know so another child can attend.
Gwynedd Preserve is an oasis of nature nestled among the highly developed suburbs of Blue Bell and North Wales. After more than a century in agriculture, the preserve’s fields are being carefully restored. A walk along the trails reveals a re-emerging ecosystem of native plants including warm-season grasses and wildflowers.
The meadow and forest habitats here are particularly important because they are connected to other preserved lands in the Wissahickon Creek watershed. The entire 26-mile length of the riparian corridor of the Wissahickon Creek greenway is protected by private landowners and conservation organizations, as well as township and state entities.
- Dress for the season and wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes.
- Please note that trails are not suitable for strollers.
- Event geared for kids 5 – 8 years old; older and younger siblings are welcome.
- Please leave your four-legged friends at home.
- Restrooms will NOT be open only during this event.
Please help us all stay safe:
- Participants must wear a mask while walking around. As per PA Department of Health orders, you must wear a mask if you are unable to maintain a distance of six feet from individuals who are not members of your household, during this activity.
- If you are sick, please stay home.
