“Pop up” Spring Walk at Stroud Preserve
Stroud Preserve | Tue, April 23, 2019, 10:00am - 12:00pm
A walk just for you and fellow Allston Jenkins Legacy Society members! Get out and enjoy the ephemeral beauty of bluebells, Jacob’s ladder, and other harbingers of springtime!
This walk is being held in memory of two long-time friends of Natural Lands, Bob and Betsy Hawkes. They savored their many Stroud Preserve hikes and always took great joy in the beauty of the spring blooms. Bob and Betsy’s 9-acre property, protected with a conservation easement, was left in their will to Natural Lands. Proceeds from the sale of their home will further our mission.
Optional lunch to follow, just minutes away, at the Four Dogs Tavern (1300 W. Strasburg Rd, West Chester), in Marshallton – Dutch treat.
Stroud Preserve is a mosaic of once-pastured grasslands, working farmlands, and woodlands that serves as a unique site for recreation, education, and scientific research. Here, you can see the needs of people and nature in balance as careful stewardship of both cultivated and “wild” areas restores vital wildlife habitat while also protecting watersheds that provide drinking water for tens-of-thousands of people.
- We’ll meet in the parking lot.
- The walk will include some elevation gain. In places, the footing may be muddy or uneven.
- Please leave four-legged friends at home.
We’re going to make every attempt to run our walk, even in light rain. Should the weather create hazardous conditions on roads or trails, we’ll cancel the hike and an announcement will be posted on Suzanne Barton’s work extension (610-353-5587 x 313) by 8:00 am on the day of the hike. Additionally, in the event of cancellation, an email will be sent to participants also by 8:00 am.
Registration required. Event is free and exclusively for Allston Jenkins Legacy Society members. Please complete and submit the secure, on-line registration form below to let us know you are coming, or call 610-353-5587 ext. 313.
Please note, space is limited. For more information about the society, contact Suzanne Barton at email@example.com or 610-353-5587 ext. 313.
Events may be cancelled due to inclement weather or low registration. In that case, we will make every effort to update our website and contact registrants. Note that we cannot offer refunds of paid registrations or ticket purchases, but rest assured that your donation will help us in our work to save open space, care for nature, and connect people to the outdoors.
