Paddle the Marshes of Maurice River
September 24, 2022 | 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

Paddle the calm tidal waters of the Maurice River, teeming with migrating and nesting bird species, including ducks, wrens, sparrows, blackbirds, and harriers—many of which feed on the lush wild rice fields there.
Led by Natural Lands staff members Steve Eisenhauer and Brian Johnson, this journey offers participants a special perspective of this picturesque eco-system.
NOTE: Please use the intersection of Lilac Street and S. 2nd St. (aka rte. 47). The Peek entrance is right across from the Lilac Street intersection. The 2100 S. 2nd Street (from google maps) address will send you a mile south.
Located along the freshwater, tidal Maurice River, the Harold N. Peek Preserve is home to some of the healthiest wild rice marsh in southern New Jersey. This wetland habitat is an excellent place to observe a wide variety of birds, especially migrating waterfowl and raptors. The preserve is part of the Maurice River Corridor “Important Bird Area” (a National Audubon Society designation).
