Insect Safari for Kids – CANCELLED
Stoneleigh: A Natural Garden |
July 19, 2022 10:30 am - 11:30 am
This event is cancelled. Please join us on August 18.
Bugs are all around us. Underground, in the air, underwater… they’re everywhere! Despite their small size, insects are among the most important animals on the planet, supporting our ecosystems from the ground up. Since Stoneleigh opened, the garden has become home to many different insects, from tiny beetles to giant dragonflies.
Kids grab your favorite adult and join us on an insect safari in the garden as we search for bugs of all sorts. We’ll learn about their fascinating relationships with plants, humans, and each other. Afterward, you’ll be ready to embark on an insect safari in your own backyard.
For nearly 80 years, Stoneleigh was the home of the Haas family, which donated the property to Natural Lands in 2016 so that it would remain preserved forever.
The property includes stately trees, winding pathways, and lush gardens that were designed by a number of notable landscape architects over the past century—including the Olmsted Brothers, sons of the famed Frederick Law Olmsted.
Before you go:
- Meet at the Welcome Kiosk.
- Event geared for kids 5 – 8 years old; older and younger siblings are welcome.
- Bring a camera to capture your favorite spaces.
- Service animals are welcome as required by law. Pets are not permitted.
- Picnicking at the Catalpa Court pavilion is available as first come, first serve.
- The terrain is relatively level. There is about a mile-and-a-half of porous paved pathways and a mile of asphalt roads that are accessible to people who use strollers, wheelchairs, or other mobility aids.
- Accessible bathrooms are available on-site and will be open.
Help us all stay safe:
- If you are sick, please stay home.
- CDC recommends that people who are not fully vaccinated wear a mask in crowded outdoor settings or during activities that involve sustained close contact with other people. Fully vaccinated people might choose to wear a mask in crowded outdoor settings, especially if they or someone in their household is immunocompromised.
This event is cancelled. Please join us on August 18.
Events may be cancelled due to inclement weather or low registration. In that case, we will make every effort to update our website and contact registrants. Note that we cannot offer refunds of paid registrations or ticket purchases, but rest assured that your donation will help us in our work to save open space, care for nature, and connect people to the outdoors.
