City Nature Challenge
Saunders Woods Preserve |
April 30, 2021 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm
It’s free, easy, and open to all. Simply look for nature (it’s everywhere!), take photos noting the location, and submit observations to iNaturalist.org. The smartphone or desktop app is free to download. No worries if you don’t know the name of the plant or animals species you photograph; iNaturalist suggests identifications and peer reviewers double-check sightings.
Philadelphia City Nature Challenge runs April 30 through May 4, 2021, in Philadelphia, Bucks, Delaware, and Montgomery Counties in PA, as well as Burlington, Camden, and Gloucester Counties in NJ.
Explore your local patch anytime during the four-day window, or join Natural Lands on April 30 at Saunders Woods Preserve where preserve manager Luke Hamilton will lead a small group in discovery and submission of observations to iNaturalist.
Pre-registration for our event on April 30 is required below. Please review “before you go” for safety protocols, including mask-wearing and social distancing.
Saunders Woods Preserve is a natural oasis for wildlife and community residents in the heart of the Main Line. The Bridlewild Trail passes through the preserve and connects to a wider system of paths that wind through the community. A walk here reveals a lively forest habitat as well as an open meadow that is home to a variety of bird species.
- Dress for the season and wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes
- Long pants and long-sleeved shirt, to protect you from poison ivy and brambles
- Bug spray and hat are suggested
- Bring refillable water bottle
- Please leave your four-legged friends at home
Anyone can participate in the City Nature Challenge – no registration required, just download iNaturalist and go!

I have read this Agreement, fully understand its terms, understand that I have given up substantial rights by registering for this event, and have done so freely and without any inducement or assurance of any nature and intend it to be a complete and unconditional release of all liability to the greatest extent allowed by law and agree that if any portion of this agreement is held to be invalid, the balance, notwithstanding, shall continue in full force and effect.
