Annual Butterfly Census – POSTPONED
Mariton Wildlife Sanctuary | Sat, June 24, 2017, 9:00am - 12:00pm
Due to weather forecast this event is postponed to Saturday, July 1, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm.
Join our annual butterfly census: a fun, citizen science effort to identify and count the pollinators that thrive in the meadows of Mariton Wildlife Sanctuary.
Conducted annually since 1991, the butterfly census is an important tool in ensuring healthy habitats for fritillaries, hairstreaks, duskywings, swallowtails, satyrs, skippers, whites, yellows, and more.
Mariton is perched on the steep slopes of Bougher Hill overlooking the scenic Delaware River. A highlight of the preserve’s trail system is the River Lookout Trail, with an overlook of both the Delaware Canal and the Delaware River 300 feet below.
Mariton’s Nature Center includes a library, meeting space, and ADA restrooms, and is open by prior arrangement.
No experience necessary. Dress for the season and wear sturdy shoes. Bring water bottle and binoculars. Be prepared to walk several miles at a slow pace on uneven terrain. Please leave your four-legged friends at home.
Event is free. Registration required. Please contact Tim Burris at firstname.lastname@example.org or 610-258-6574 to register for the new date, July 1, 2017.
Events may be cancelled due to inclement weather or low registration. In that case, we will make every effort to update our website and contact registrants. Note that we cannot offer refunds of paid registrations or ticket purchases, but rest assured that your donation will help us in our work to save open space, care for nature, and connect people to the outdoors.
