Spring Bird Walk at Stoneleigh
May 3, 2023 | 8:00 am - 10:00 am
The tall trees, expansive shrubs, and native wildflowers of Stoneleigh sustain a variety of migratory songbirds during spring migration. Flycatchers, orioles, thrushes, and warblers wing their way across the garden, stopping to fuel-up during their journeys.
Volunteer bird surveyors have documented increasing avian activity as Stoneleigh’s native plantings expand and mature. Bring binoculars and join Natural Lands staffer Debbie Beer to look and listen for birds and contribute to eBird community science.
For nearly 80 years, Stoneleigh was the home of the Haas family, which donated the property to Natural Lands in 2016 so that it would remain preserved forever.
The property includes stately trees, winding pathways, and lush gardens that were designed by a number of notable landscape architects over the past century—including the Olmsted Brothers, sons of the famed Frederick Law Olmsted.
