Stroud Preserve |
September 10, 2022 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Painter Gregory Blue explores Stroud Preserve with an artist’s eye, while Natural Lands’ tree management coordinator Tom Kershner explores it with an arborist’s eye. Both love Stroud for the saplings, stands, and centuries-old specimen rooted in preserved open space.
Join us on a walk and get to know a few of Gregory’s and Tom’s favorite trees.
Gregory Blue is a local artist from West Chester, PA. During the pandemic, Gregory found Stroud Preserve and it inspired him for a series of paintings that will spotlight Stroud through the months. Tom serves as preserve manager for several of our preserves including Gwynedd Preserve in Montgomery County. In addition, Tom is our tree management coordinator and oversees our hazardous tree program. Prior to joining Natural Lands, Tom worked as an arborist—a role he continues to fill at Natural Lands.
Stroud Preserve is a mosaic of once-pastured grasslands, working farmlands, and woodlands that serves as a unique site for recreation, education, and scientific research. Here, you can see the needs of people and nature in balance as careful stewardship of both cultivated and “wild” areas restores vital wildlife habitat while also protecting watersheds that provide drinking water for tens-of-thousands of people.
