Crow’s Nest: Deer chases fox
By Daniel Barringer, Preserve Manager.
One night in December our trail camera caught this little exchange between a young one-antlered buck and a passing fox:
Sure looks like the deer was rushing the fox, not an improbable action.
And below, about a month later, a fox (maybe the same one) heading by with an elegant gait. I like the vintage film vibe here, just the way the photo turned out.
In addition to wildlife the camera caught a lot of visitors (some smiling and waving for the camera) as they hiked the trail. A few, it appears, had dogs off leash. Remember, only wildlife should harass other wildlife! Seriously, even the most well-behaved dogs can inhibit wildlife use of the habitat—their home, and a place we have the privilege of visiting. And other visitors with reactive dogs appreciate that they can visit here knowing that the other dogs they might meet are similarly restrained.
