Andruss Island
Upper Providence Township
Montgomery County, PA
27 Acres
Darin Groff, Preserve Manager
610-827-0156

Andruss Island is a 27-acre island in the Schuylkill River that stretches for approximately half a mile along the river. The island was donated to Natural Lands Trust in 1976 by the Alco Standard Corporation in honor of Frank Andruss, a former VP at Alco. Andruss had an interest in conservation, and had worked to help Natural Lands Trust acquire property in the past.

Highlights
The upstream third of the island has been repeatedly disturbed by high waters, leaving behind tangled specimens of willow and sycamore. The downstream two thirds have mature alluvial forest—-ash, silver maple, sugar maple, and a surprising abundance of spice bush and pawpaw, which add a ‘southern touch’ to the island.

Facilities
Due to limited facilities and/or ecologicial or donor restrictions, use of this preserve is limited.
