Take the SCVNGR Challenge!

It’s a reality of the 21st century: children are wired (and we don’t mean on ice cream and energy drinks). Just ask parents! At some point, they’ve probably found themselves turning to a child for help with a cell phone or computer.

Unfortunately, that connection with the virtual world appears to come at the cost of less time in and understanding of the natural world. And if kids aren’t experiencing nature now, will they care about conserving it in the future?

Smartphones and tablets may be an effective way to bridge the gap, letting kids use technology to explore and learn about nature. With generous support from The McLean Contributionship, Natural Lands Trust is the first organization in the country to use an app called SCVNGR to guide kids on a fun and educational tour of nature.

The SCVNGR Tour of our Stroud Preserve includes 10 fun and educational challenges including questions based on signs, hands-on activities, and opportunities to reflect on the experience.
